The Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow ruled in a dispute over the inheritance of businessman Oleg Burlakov, who died of CORONAVIRUS in June 2021, Kommersant reports.

For Burlakov’s fortune (according to various estimates, it ranged from $650 million to $1.5 billion and included the 106-meter sailing yacht Black Pearl), the entrepreneur’s daughters Elena and Veronika and his wife Lyudmila fought for Burlakov’s fortune, with whom at the time of his death the businessman was going through a divorce process in Monaco. Other contenders for the inheritance are Burlakov's sister Vera Kazakova and her husband Nikolai, a business partner of the entrepreneur.

A court in Moscow sided with the Kazakov family, recognizing them as the sole heirs. As the newspaper writes, the authority relied on the laws of Monaco, where Burlakov lived in recent years. The couple submitted to the case the will of the businessman, found in his personal documents (according to the laws of Monaco, the will does not need to be certified in order to be recognized as legal). Handwriting examination recognized the document as authentic. Since Lyudmila Burlakova and her daughters claimed the assets as heirs of the first stage, the parties had to deal with the court. The Lublin court was chosen according to the place of the last registration of Burlakov's widow.

The defendants tried to prove that Burlakov made a will, being not in an adequate condition. In addition, they said, the document mentioned the transfer of all assets to the “Fund of Vera and Nikolai Kazakov”, which at the time of writing did not yet exist. However, the court considered that the property was to be transferred to the Kazakov spouses.

The losing party - Lyudmila Burlakova and her daughters - can still appeal against the court's decision.

In December 2021, Forbes estimated the entrepreneur’s fortune at $2.7 billion. In addition to the $250 million yacht, it included funds on the accounts of Burlakov and his widow ($700 million and $1.5 billion, respectively), apartments in Monaco ($150 million), the Ironwall Foundation under the control of Burlakov's son-in-law Greg Gliner, the Global 5000 aircraft, as well as the businessman's assets in RUSSIA.

In 2018, an assassination attempt was made on Burlakov in Moscow on Lobachevsky Street - an unknown person ran up to the Cadillac Escalade in which the businessman was sitting and opened fire. All bullets entered the body of the car, no one was hurt. According to Kommersant, the Investigative Committee is still investigating the assassination attempt, and is also checking the circumstances of Burlakov's death, including the quality and timeliness of medical care provided to him.
