Court arrests RAS adviser Vasily Solovyov in fraud case

The Izmailovsky COURT of Moscow has arrested Vasily Solovyov, an adviser to the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), in a case of particularly large-scale fraud. This was reported by TASS , citing the text of the court's decision.

“The petition of the senior investigator of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is granted, and a measure of restraint in the form of detention is chosen for Vasily Olegovich Solovyov, setting the period of detention until February 6, 2025,” the ruling states.

The document states that Solovyov regularly travels abroad, and therefore “may continue to engage in criminal activity, exert pressure on victims and witnesses in a criminal case, and, given the gravity of the charges brought against him, hide from the preliminary investigation authorities and the court.”

The RAS website had a page with information that Vasily Solovyov is an advisor to RAS Vice President Yuri Balega, but at the time of publication of the news the page had been removed.
