
In July 2021, the turnover of public catering in Moscow reached 31.9 billion rubles, follows from the materials of the Rosstat department for Moscow and the Moscow region. This indicator exceeded the level of the previous year by a third: in July 2020, the turnover of public catering after the self-isolation regime canceled a little earlier amounted to only 23.3 billion rubles in Moscow. But the results of July this year also surpassed the level of the pre-pandemic 2019: then, in July, according to updated data from Rosstat, it amounted to 31 billion rubles.
How Rosstat considers the turnover of catering
When calculating for each region, the data of canteens, cafes, restaurants, bars, eateries, as well as organizations of other types of activity are taken into account, the representative of Rosstat explains.
For example, the turnover of public catering includes the cost of own culinary products and purchased goods without cooking, sold to employees of organizations with subsequent deduction from wages, as well as subscriptions, coupons, etc.
Food in social organizations (schools, hospitals, sanatoriums, nursing homes), home delivery by orders of the population, as well as to workplaces by orders of organizations and individual entrepreneurs, food in transport, as well as at receptions, banquets and etc.

This year, for most of July, there were restrictions on the work of public catering in Moscow, which the city authorities introduced against the backdrop of an increase in the number of cases of CORONAVIRUS. Since June 13, restrictions have been in place in Moscow on the operation of restaurants, cafes, bars and other catering establishments at night, and food courts in shopping centers have also been banned.
