Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), metropolitan radiologists can read mammography results eight times faster, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on his telegram channel .
According to the mayor, mammograms are usually analyzed by two specialists, which helps to avoid mistakes. In addition, double reading of images makes the assessment independent and of high quality. However, if the analysis is carried out using a neural network, then the quality of diagnostics remains the same high, and the execution time is significantly reduced.
“So the use of AI allows us to reduce the burden on doctors, and patients can get conclusions faster,” Sobyanin emphasized.
The mayor noted that at the moment about 50 artificial intelligence services help radiologists. “Neural networks apply color markings to images and take measurements. The algorithm detects signs of lung cancer, COVID-19 , stroke, coronary heart disease, and other diseases in images ,” the mayor said. “Nevertheless, the specialist always has the last word.”
Earlier, Sobyanin cited data from the results of using artificial intelligence to decipher ECG and computed tomography images. According to the mayor, in three years, neural networks have helped doctors analyze more than 2.7 million electrocardiograms and almost 3 million CT scans.
The head of the city also recalled that Moscow has been working on the digitalization of the healthcare system for over ten years. AI services are increasingly being used in it and help make life easier for both doctors and patients.
