Hospitalized patients with coronavirus infection occupy almost 15 thousand beds in Moscow. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on the air of "Russia 1".

“We have mobilized 20,000 beds. Today, a little more than 14 are occupied, approaching 15 thousand. A large volume,” he said.

For comparison, the mayor noted that 35,000 beds have been allocated for emergency planned care in the Moscow healthcare system. The creation of another 20 thousand places specifically for patients with COVID-19, according to Sobyanin, can be equated with the emergence of another healthcare system specifically to combat the pandemic.

“The question is not even in hospital beds, not in oxygen and not in mechanical ventilation. The main thing there is the people who should work there: doctors, nurses, and so on. The load on the ambulance, polyclinic, and inpatient systems has doubled,” the mayor added.

Sobyanin specified that approximately 2,000 patients with coronavirus infection are hospitalized in the capital every day.

According to the mayor, either rapid large-scale vaccination or lockdown can stop the spread of COVID-19.

As of June 24, 15.8% of all residents in the city received at least one dose of the vaccine. The total number of people infected with coronavirus in Moscow has exceeded one million.
