The British authorities intend to offer people over 50 years of age to enter the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine in order to more effectively fight the pandemic and, in particular, the spread of new strains, reports The Times.
According to the newspaper, two options are now being considered: using vaccines specifically designed to fight coronavirus mutations, or introducing a third dose of vaccines that are already in use in the country (Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca or Moderna).
These drugs, the newspaper writes, are not as effective in combating the spread of foreign strains as they are with the spread of the British.
The Times reports that the first studies of these two options gave the British government hope that they will be enough to combat existing and new mutations. In addition to the elderly, the authorities intend to offer a third vaccine to people with comorbidities that put them at risk. One way to administer the third dose is during the annual flu vaccination, but in the other hand, the newspaper specifies.
