Scholz said the increase in spending due to reduced dependence on Russian gas

Berlin will have to spend more on energy imports after reducing its dependence on supplies from Russia, the chancellor said. At the same time, the embargo on Russian energy should not be harsh, he added.

Germany's decision to become independent of energy supplies from Russia will mean more spending in the country's energy sector, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with ARD television. Scholz's words are quoted by the Focus portal.

According to Scholz, with the refusal of Russian supplies, Germany will spend more on imported energy than before.

At the same time, he spoke out against a sharp embargo on energy supplies from Russia. Scholz urged that the decision to stop imports be considered, as it will have an impact on many jobs in Germany. The chancellor assured that the FRG would do everything to ensure that the renunciation of Russian energy carriers was carried out quickly.

The chancellor also said that the timing of the refusal to import Russian coal will depend on how quickly Germany will increase the use of renewable energy sources. Berlin reported that Germany plans to become independent of Russian coal by autumn.
