Scholz warned of the aggressiveness of the fifth wave of COVID due to the omicron strain

In Germany, there could be a sharp increase in cases of CORONAVIRUS due to the omicron strain, triggering a more aggressive fifth wave of infection. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a press conference, reports Die Tageszeitung.

“This will not end as quickly as we hoped,” the chancellor said, noting that a new variant of covid-19 could also undermine the effectiveness of vaccination.

Scholz also announced the introduction of additional restrictions, which will come into force on December 28. So, private meetings in Germany will be allowed only for people vaccinated against the coronavirus, the number of participants should not exceed 10 people. In addition, clubs and discos will be closed, and any dance events will be prohibited. Holding large sports, cultural and other events will be possible only if there are no spectators.

The German chancellor also said that the government deliberately set such dates for the entry into force of the restrictions, which will come after the date of the celebration of Christmas. According to him, experience has shown that Christmas and Easter do not affect the spread of infection. A year earlier, during the Christmas and Easter holidays in Germany, there was a hard lockdown.
