Irek Yalalov and Lilia Gumerova were among the 146 members of the upper house of the Russian parliament who ratified the treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between Russia and the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics in early March under EU sanctions. Then Lilia Gumerova, in a conversation with RBC Ufa, noted that the sanctions would not affect her life in any way. Yalalov stated that he did not have a single bit of regret that he was included in the sanctions list, as it included "people who are not afraid to share the fate and future of our country." At the end of April, Australia imposed sanctions against 144 senators, including representatives of Bashkiria in the Federation Council.
