Due to the closure of air traffic between RUSSIA and South Africa after the discovery of a new strain of CORONAVIRUS "omicron", many Russian tourists are "stuck" in South Africa. This was told to RBC by a tourist from Moscow Maxim Bayanov.

Bayanov said that at least eight people he knew faced such a situation, they noticed several more Russian tourists at the airport. According to him, tickets for the return flight were purchased from Johannesburg on November 27, on the same day Qatar Airways canceled the flight. Bayanov noted that he and his wife returned to Cape Town to other Russian tourists, who also could not fly out of the country.

“I think a lot of people planned to be back by Monday and got stuck,” he said.
