Russia urged to save children from a camp in Syria due to the outbreak of COVID-19

Russia called on the international community to rescue children from the Al-Hol refugee camp in Syria due to the coronavirus outbreak. The corresponding statement was made by Russian Deputy Representative to the UN Gennady Kuzmin, his words are reported by RIA Novosti.

“We call on the international community to take practical steps to protect the lives of innocent children,” Kuzmin said.

He also recalled that "in accordance with international law, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, states are obliged to repatriate their citizens, as well as to take steps to ensure that the children of their citizens do not become stateless."

According to the UN, there are about 60 thousand people in the El-Hol camp, 39 cases of coronavirus were detected there, six people died.
