In Karelia, in crowded places, medical facilities and public transport, it is recommended to use protective masks. Such instructions have been published today on the official website of the regional Department of Rospotrebnadzor in connection with the circulation of new sub-variants of the Omicron strain and the increased risk of infection with COVID-19. Precautions also include limiting contact with others if you feel unwell and the need to seek qualified medical help. The department also reminds of the need for vaccination and revaccination every six months, which will help reduce the risk of a severe course of the disease.

In addition, the Central Election Commission of Karelia, on the recommendation of Rospotrebnadzor, will introduce a mandatory mask regime at polling stations on the days of the elections of the HEAD of the republic - September 9, 10 and 11. The chairman of the Central Election Commission, Aleksey Balikhin, told the Stolitsa na Onego publication about this. Voters will have their temperature taken at the entrance to the polling stations. Everyone in the premises must wear masks. They will be distributed at the entrance. Hand sanitizers will also be installed there.

Over the past week, 706 cases of Covid-19 have been registered in Karelia. This is 43.5% more than a week earlier. At the same time, according to the information of the Minister of HEALTH of the Republic, Mikhail Okhlopkov, the level of herd immunity has decreased to 1%.
