Waiting for the omicron

No cases of omicron infection have been detected in Tatarstan today, Lyubov Avdonina, deputy HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Tatarstan, said at a press conference at the Tatar-inform news agency.

“Twice a week we send the materials of the sick to the Russian Anti-Plague Institute Microb in Saratov in order to determine the strains of the virus, including Omicron. So far, there is no information about its discovery. We still have 32 British strains and 284 Delta strains,” she said.

The deputy head of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Tatarstan noted that the situation is under control. An explosive increase in the incidence rate is not expected with the observance of preventive measures, restrictions and vaccination of the population.

At the same time, Avdonina stressed that the new strain of the virus is especially dangerous for unvaccinated people, especially those who have chronic diseases, primarily diabetes.

“Today, it is known that Omicron is resistant to all disinfectants that are used to prevent CORONAVIRUS, SARS and influenza. That is, all our measures used against covid and its other strains are also effective against omicron,” she said.
