Rospotrebnadzor urged people from risk groups to comply with COVID restrictions

In connection with the increase in the incidence of coronavirus, Rospotrebnadzor recommended that people from risk groups continue to wear masks in public places and use antiseptics, as well as to be vaccinated every six months for all Russians.

Risk groups include the elderly and those with chronic diseases.

The agency noted that the increase in the incidence in Russia was caused by the spread of new sub-variants of the omicron strain of coronavirus. Over the past two weeks, the proportion of BA.4/BA.5 variants has become dominant - 75.39%, followed by the BA.2 substrain - 21.56%. The smallest part of the identified genotypes was subvariant BA.2.75 (“centaur”).

Rospotrebnadzor indicated that over the past week, the spread coefficient of COVID, that is, the number of people infected by one sick person before leaving for self-isolation, increased to a value of 1.4. By July 10, the figure was 1.13, the highest since mid-February.

The day before, the operational headquarters reported that over the past week, the incidence rate of COVID-19 per 100 thousand of the population increased by 48.9% compared to the previous one, amounting to 29.97. Rospotrebnadzor added that this figure is 50.2% higher than the average over the past four weeks.

However, a few days later, the incidence in Russia began to grow again, but Rospotrebnadzor did not see the need to re-impose restrictions. At the same time, after five cases of infection with a variant of the centaur omicron strain were detected in Moscow, Roszdravnadzor instructed the regional authorities to resume the work of headquarters for the prevention of coronavirus.

The World Health Organization called on all countries to return to the mask regime and start developing new vaccines against coronavirus.

According to the operational headquarters, 6183 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected over the past day, their number has been decreasing for the second day after the record on July 24 over the past two and a half months. At the same time, 120% more people were hospitalized with coronavirus than the day before - 1,664 Russians were admitted to the hospital.
