The agency believes that all laboratories should perform tests within 24 hours. Currently, the maximum turnaround time for results is two days.

Rospotrebnadzor proposed to reduce the mandatory period for performing tests for coronavirus to 24 hours, the corresponding changes can be made to the sanitary and epidemiological rules. The draft amendments are published on the portal of draft regulations.

“The term for performing a laboratory test for COVID-19 should not exceed 24 hours from the moment the biological material arrives at the laboratory until the result is received by the person in respect of whom the relevant test was carried out,” the document says.

Currently, the maximum duration of the test is 48 hours.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced the need to reduce this period during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
