Timofey Kulyabin voluntarily resigned as chief DIRECTOR of the Novosibirsk State Academic Theater "Red Torch". This was reported to the NGS in the press service of the theater.

“This is due to the peculiarity of his professional activity at the moment. it is no secret that for a long time the director has been working on other productions outside the Red Torch Theater. Understanding the circumstances and taking into account the format of such project work, Timofey Alexandrovich decided to leave his post in the theater, ”the Red Torch said.

Timoy Kulyabin was born in 1984. In 2007 he graduated from the directing department of GITIS. At the age of 30, he headed the Red Torch Theater. During his work at the theater, Kulyabin presented 10 productions to the public.

At the end of December 2014, Richard Wagner's opera Tannhäuser directed by Kulyabin was shown on the stage of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. In it, Jesus Christ is presented as the hero of an erotic film directed by the knight Tannhäuser.

The distorted image of the Savior caused indignation among believers. The Novosibirsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church appealed to the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky with a demand to exclude the opera "Tannhäuser" from the NOVAT repertoire. Orthodox Christians twice gathered on the square in front of the Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Metropolitan Tikhon of Novosibirsk and Berdsk wrote an appeal to the prosecutor's office, noting that the production offended the feelings of believers. According to the clergyman, the performance could create a threat similar to the one that caused a terrorist attack on the editorial office of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

After that, administrative cases were initiated against Kulyabin and the director of the Opera and Ballet Theater Boris Mezdrich under part 2 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation “Intentional public desecration of religious or liturgical literature, objects of religious veneration, signs or emblems of ideological symbols and paraphernalia, or their damage or destruction ". Later, the proceedings against cultural figures were terminated.
