Due to the spread of the omicron strain, the Russian authorities do not exclude a sharp increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS in early 2022, writes REUTERS. According to sources of the agency, we can talk about 50 thousand people.

Russian authorities are preparing for a new wave of coronavirus in early 2022 due to the spread of a new omicron strain, Reuters reported, citing three political sources.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, close to the Kremlin, a surge in the incidence is expected in January-February, and the authorities do not exclude that during this period the number of cases of covid-19 infection per day may exceed 50 thousand.

“We are looking at Omicron and so far we see that the disease is milder than in the case of Delta,” a source close to the Kremlin told Reuters. According to him, the task of providing a sufficient number of beds in hospitals has been solved. He also did not rule out that the new strain would lead to fewer hospitalizations than Delta, "people will just stay at home."

The Ministry of HEALTH and the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus did not comment on the situation, writes Reuters.
