The omicron strain has become dominant in Moscow, accounting for 80% of newly diagnosed cases, Deputy Mayor Anastasia Rakova said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“The omicron strain is confidently dominating in Moscow. According to our sequencing, 80% of newly diagnosed cases are omicron," the Deputy Mayor said.
However, she noted that this strain does not dominate during hospitalization. “The lion's burden falls on city clinics. More than 90% of patients are treated there, so additional measures are being taken to strengthen the primary care,” Rakova said.
Golikova called the "delta" the outgoing strain in RUSSIA Society
According to the data for Russia, which were announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, in the structure of detected cases, omicron and other non-dominant strains account for 52%, and about 48% for the outgoing delta strain. The average hospitalization rate in the country is about 17%.
However, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that due to the simultaneous circulation of two dominant strains, the picture in terms of the level of hospitalizations is ambiguous. In some regions (for example, in Tuva and North Ossetia), this figure still exceeds 50% of the number of recorded cases.
In total, in Russia, according to the operational headquarters on January 26, almost 75,000 new infections were detected over the past day, of which almost 20,000 were in Moscow. Both for the country and for the region, these are new anti-records.
