Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to take part in the plenary meeting of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in person. This was reported to journalists by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, reports TASS.

“It is planned in person,” Peskov said, answering the relevant question.

SPIEF 2021 will take place from 2 to 5 June. The main business program of the forum includes more than 100 events in four thematic areas, which are dedicated to the issues of the global and Russian economy, as well as the social and technological agenda.

Peskov did not rule out Putin's full-time participation in SPIEF-2021 Society

Earlier, Peskov said that the format of Putin's participation in SPIEF-2021 cannot be accurately determined due to the "mobility" of the epidemiological situation. At the same time, according to the press secretary, "it is impossible to imagine the St. Petersburg forum without the participation of the head of state."

Last year, due to the threat of COVID-19, the forum, along with other major economic events, was canceled. The Roscongress Foundation, which acts as the organizing committee of the SPIEF, said in March that the forum would still be held this year. They explained that the decision was made taking into account the conclusions of experts that Russia and the world are “at a post-pandemic turning point”, and universal vaccination and the formation of herd immunity make it possible to “stabilize the epidemiological situation”.
