In Yerevan, on France Square, protesters against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan began to set up tents for a round-the-clock protest, RBC correspondent reports.

Ishkhan Saghatelyan, vice-speaker of the parliament from the Hayastan bloc, said that the deputies of the two factions in full force will stay on the square overnight. Together with them will be "representatives of the intelligentsia, extra-parliamentary forces, various sectors of society, as well as parliamentarians from Karabakh," Sputnik-Armenia reports.

Armenian opposition announced "large-scale actions of disobedience" from May 2 Politics

Traffic on the square was stopped. Protesters build barricades of garbage cans and benches.

The Armenian opposition announced that it would start "large-scale actions of civil disobedience" from May 2. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to Saghatelyan, May 1 was "a historic day, the day of the beginning of the awakening of the Armenian people, unity, consolidation, straightening the back and achieving victory."

Protests have been taking place in the country since mid-April. The reason for them was the words of the prime minister about the need to "lower the bar of expectations" on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, which the opposition regarded as the readiness of the authorities to recognize the region as part of Azerbaijan. At the same time, Pashinyan denied accusations of intending to “surrender” Karabakh.

The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia warned that in connection with the opposition rallies, “there is a real danger of organizing and conducting mass riots,” and called on citizens “not to succumb to possible provocations, to show high civil responsibility.”
