Yerevan police detained over 400 protesters Politics

The Resistance movement has been holding protest actions in Yerevan since May 17. During the protests, the police blocked more than 50 streets, 414 people were detained. Mikael Badalyan, the leader of the Azatagrum movement, was among the detainees, but he was released a few hours after his arrest.

The opposition began holding rallies in Armenia after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke on April 14 about the need to “lower the bar of expectations” on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Opposition representatives took his words as a readiness to recognize the region as part of Azerbaijan, accused Pashinyan of betrayal and dependence on Turkey. The Prime Minister rejected the intention to surrender Karabakh.
