A spokesperson for Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska has criticized British authorities after news that pro-Ukrainian activists have seized his Belgrave Square mansion in London, REUTERS reports.
The building does not belong to the businessman, but to members of his family, she stressed. According to Deripaska's spokesman, the British government "has colluded with people who raid private property and show disrespect for the rule of law."
The businessman's family members are outraged by the "negligence of the justice system" in the UK, the agency reports.
Anarchists seized "Deripaska's mansion" in London Politics
As the Daily Mail reported, activists broke into the building on the night of March 14, they hung several banners on the balcony, one of which read "this property has been vacated." Shortly thereafter, a statement on behalf of the "anarchists" appeared on the resistlondon Twitter page. The demonstrators said that by occupying the mansion, they wanted to "show solidarity with the Ukrainian people, as well as with the Russian people, who never consented to this madness." They added that the building would be used to house refugees from Ukraine.
