The government allocated 400 million rubles. to study the genome of the omicron CORONAVIRUS strain. This was reported on the website of the Cabinet.

“Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to allocate more than 400 million rubles. for the procedure of sequencing (genetic analysis) of a new strain,” the message says.

The funds will be used to purchase equipment, enzymes and consumables, which will allow to analyze at least 57.2 thousand samples. The money is allocated to subordinate institutions of Rospotrebnadzor from the government reserve fund.

According to Mishustin, further study of circulating strains is needed. "Timely research is needed to effectively monitor the change in the situation," the HEAD of government said.
