The centaur virus, the chief freelance therapist of the Republic of Tatarstan noted, will be 16% more contagious than the omicron strain. For unvaccinated citizens,

“The last strain was phenomenally contagious, a lot of people got sick in a mild form in January-February, and then by April the incidence decreased - all this was predictable. The strain that is now spreading in the countries adjacent to us was called "centaur". This is also a variant of the omicron. We hope that it will proceed in a mild form in those people who have an immune cushion,” Diana Abdulganieva, chief freelance therapist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan, said today in the “Interview without a tie” program.

According to her, the new strain is 16% more contagious than the previous one. In unvaccinated, immune-compromised individuals who have never been ill with coronavirus, it can cause moderate disease with lung damage. Children will also be affected. According to her, it is necessary to increase the pace of vaccination and revaccination.

According to the operational headquarters of the Russian Federation, as of July 22, the level of herd immunity in Tatarstan is 6.9%. 2.47 million people completed the full course of vaccination, over 2.5 million Tatarstan residents were vaccinated with the first component.

At the same time, a week ago, the level of collective immunity to COVID-19 was estimated at 8.9%, a week earlier - 10.1%.

The medic noted that a certain increase in the incidence of COVID-19 was recorded and did not rule out that its indicators could return to winter values in the fall. One of the reasons the chief therapist called travel.

“People travel, move from city to city, go abroad. Covid is a contagious infectious process, it always comes in waves. We expected there to be a new wave after the omicron strain. It didn't happen because we traveled very little. In order for it to appear, the virus must start from somewhere. We know that the wave was in China, but there are not many rail and air connections with it,” Abdulganieva said in an interview published on the website of the Tatarstan 24 TV channel.

She said that 500 covid beds are now deployed in the region, which are not 100% loaded.
