Ukrainian Ambassador to Thailand Andriy Beshta died at the age of 45, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
“On May 30, at the age of 45, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand Andrey Petrovich Beshta died,” the message says.
The ministry offered condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed condolences and noted Besht's high professional qualities. “He was a benevolent person and a highly professional diplomat who faithfully served the interests of our state,” he said.
The Thai police indicated that the diplomat was found dead in his hotel room on the island of Koh Lipe. No signs of violent death were found. According to the Bangkok Post, the first results of an autopsy at a local hospital showed that the cause of death could be acute heart failure. The study also determined that the diplomat did not have covid-19 .
Andriy Beshta began his service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 1998 after graduating from the Faculty of International Relations of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He worked at the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN in New York and at the Ukrainian Embassy in Thailand, was a member of the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the 67-70th sessions of the UN General Assembly. He has been the Ambassador of Ukraine to Thailand since 2015. Also, since 2017, he has been the Ambassador of Ukraine to Laos and Myanmar concurrently.
