Rospotrebnadzor is closely monitoring the mutations of the omicron strain, Anna Popova, HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor, said at a meeting of the presidium of the coordinating council under the government to combat CORONAVIRUS. The broadcast was conducted by the Russia-24 TV channel.

Popova said that a study of the strain composition of the coronavirus is underway. All identified genomic sequences are uploaded to the Russian national database VGARus. More than 80 thousand sequences have already been collected there, more than 8 thousand of them belong to the "omicron".

“I want to note that we are very closely following the further development of the situation and the mutations within this variant,” Popova said.

She clarified that the database contains more than 250 sequences (sequences) of a new subspecies of the omicron strain BA.2, which is more infectious than the original version of BA.1. Another option, BA.3, has not been identified in RUSSIA, the head of Rospotrebnadzor added.

Popova called the results of the fight against "omicron" in Russia very good Society
