Petersburgers began to vaccinate against coronavirus in a new way

Residents of St. Petersburg began to be vaccinated with a nasal vaccine against CORONAVIRUS infection. In total, the city received 54,000 nebulizers of the Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vak) drug, the St. Petersburg TV channel reports.

The nasal vaccine, like the injection, consists of two doses given three weeks apart. “It is directly injected into the entry gate of the infection, which is usually the respiratory tract. it forms immunity that protects the nasal mucosa and nasal part from infection, and is perceived in the body more gently, ”said Larisa Solovieva, HEAD of the department for organizing outpatient medical care of the St. Petersburg HEALTH Committee.

“It is also drawn into the syringe with a needle, the dose is 0.5 milliliters. The cap is put on. We pull the piston over ourselves, take a little air - and that’s all, ”Larisa Volkina, a nurse at the vaccination room at the St. Petersburg City Polyclinic No. 112, described the method of using the drug.

The fact that St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region have applied for a nasal vaccine against covid-19 , RBC Petersburg wrote in July. The Gam-COVID-Vak spray itself was registered back in the spring. Currently, the spray is allowed to be used to vaccinate patients over 18 years of age.

It is assumed that it will be used primarily for revaccination of those already vaccinated with the injectable version of the vaccine. According to epidemiologist Nadezhda Satosova, revaccination is necessary in a pandemic every six months. The nasal form of the vaccine for these purposes is considered optimal - it creates local immunity on the mucous membrane, has virtually no side effects and is easier to tolerate by people.
