Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that he does not consider the further expansion of NATO through the entry of Sweden and Finland into the bloc an existential threat to Russia.

“No, I don’t think so,” Peskov said in an interview with Sky News, answering a related question. Nevertheless, he stressed that if Finland and Sweden join NATO, Russia will have to "balance the situation."

“Then we will have to make our western flank more and more sophisticated in terms of ensuring our security,” Peskov added.

He also refused to consider the imposed economic sanctions and pressure as an existential threat to Russia . Peskov recalled that the country has been living under sanctions for a couple of decades and is used to this situation. According to him, Russia began to prepare for these sanctions a year ago.
