Hungary should not participate in the conflict on the territory of Ukraine, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told reporters after voting in the parliamentary elections. According to him, the country's ruling party FIDES, in case of victory, will not allow such a development of events.
According to Orban, the fighting in Ukraine is dangerous, and Budapest should not interfere in what is happening. The prime minister believes that the opposition "does not realize how serious this is and wants to take steps that could involve Hungary in the conflict, which would be a tragedy for Hungary" (quote from hirado.hu)
“That is why we are participating in the elections to prevent this,” he added.
Elections in Hungary are held on Sunday, April 3. 199 deputies will be elected to the National Assembly for a four-year term, 93 seats are distributed according to party lists, and 106 - in single-member districts. According to the latest FIDES polls, Orbana is slightly ahead of the opposition. The political force is opposed by the oppositional alliance of six parties "United for Hungary", which is headed by Peter Marki-Zaj.
