Omicron strain of coronavirus detected in 89 countries

Omicron-strain of CORONAVIRUS as of December 16 was detected in 89 countries. This is reported by the World HEALTH Organization (WHO), reports REUTERS.

According to the organization, the new strain spreads faster than the delta strain, doubling the number of cases in one and a half to three days.

The WHO noted that it is not yet known whether the increase in the incidence of "omicron" is due to its ability to "evade" immunity to covid-19 , increased transmissibility, or a combination of both factors.

The organization warned that with such an increase in cases in some countries, hospitals could quickly become overwhelmed. “Given the rapidly rising number of infections, it is possible that many health systems could quickly become overwhelmed,” the WHO said in a statement.
