
The richest businessman of Ukraine Rinat Akhmetov intends to sell the Luminance superyacht, which is being built in Germany on his order, according to The New York Times.
The company System Capital Management, which combines the main assets of the businessman, said that Akhmetov is considering selling the vessel before its construction is completed.
The NYT notes that it is not yet clear how Akhmetov can terminate the contract or sell the yacht, which is still under construction. According to the interlocutor of the publication, who is working on the Luminance project, the best time to sell is the day before launching. According to the industry portal Boat International, the construction of the vessel will be completed in 2023.
According to Jock Mendoza-Wilson, DIRECTOR of international relations at System Capital Management, Akhmetov signed a contract to build a yacht in 2018. The work continued even after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the source of the newspaper said. According to him, the businessman's relatives traveled to Western Europe to discuss the details of the construction; Akhmetov himself was on the territory of Ukraine during the hostilities.
