No need to invent anything: Mark Andriessen - on the principles of investing

Mark Andreessen, a venture capitalist who has been involved in Internet projects since the dawn of the web, has advice for ordinary investors who do not know where to invest their money. “Put it into an S&P 500 index fund,” he says. “You don’t have to invent anything.”

Andreessen, whose venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz manages an $18 billion portfolio, has made some very successful tech investments. He was one of the first to support companies such as Twitter and Facebook, of which Andreessen now sits on the board of directors. But his advice to the layman is more prosaic: According to Andreessen, investors should "very carefully" enter the "highly speculative realm" of venture capital.
