The pace at which the world is vaccinating against COVID-19 is not enough to talk about the end of the pandemic in 2022. This was stated by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, reports Reuters.

“In order to end the pandemic everywhere, it is necessary to be guided not only by economic, but also by ethical logic. It is wrong when people die because we have not done the work necessary to protect their lives,” said Georgieva, noting the critical role of vaccines in defeating COVID-19.

In May, Georgieva and other IMF officials came up with a plan for “how to end the COVID-19 pandemic.” The document specifically noted the danger of a gap between the rates of vaccination in rich and poor countries, where the share of those vaccinated can differ by dozens of times.

“The pandemic will not end anywhere until it ends everywhere,” the report, published on the IMF website, noted.
