The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched a system for recognizing the silhouettes of people and cars

Several regions have launched a system that recognizes people and cars by their silhouettes. She will distinguish similar people by additional features,

The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched a new system in a number of Russian regions that can recognize not only faces, but also the silhouettes of people and cars, Andrey Telenkov, general director of the Ntechlab developer company, told TASS.

According to him, this system is already operating in five regions of Russia and abroad. In which regions it has already been launched, Telenkov did not specify.

The new system, he says, can "track a person's trajectory," count people and search for them by their silhouettes. When recognizing outwardly similar people, it will take into account other signs, such as gait or height, it will also be possible to search for a person by glasses, a hat or a beard.

Chemezov invited the heads of regions to install a face recognition system Technology and media

“It's the same with cars. We are all used to the fact that cars are registered by traffic cameras, but there are not so many such cameras and they only shoot on city roads and highways,” Telenkov continued.

According to him, the new system can recognize cars caught on camera when they are not very visible, license plates cannot be recognized, or only part of the car is visible. The algorithm allows you to identify a car by its color, brand and individual characteristics, said the head of Ntechlab.

The main areas of application of the technology are regional video analytics, transport management, construction projects, trade, commercial real estate and shopping centers, he added.

In particular, the NtechLab face recognition system is used by the Moscow authorities. In normal times, criminals are searched for with the help of it; in 2018, it was used during the World Cup. Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, it was used to search for violators of the two-week self-isolation regime.

To combat the spread of COVID-19 , other regions were also offered to install the NTechLab system. Such an initiative was made in April last year by the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov (NTechLab is a technology partner of the state corporation). According to him, the system will allow to detect people from the list of potential carriers of the virus, to search for the history of their contacts with other people; identify people in quarantine areas and check if they are wearing masks; count the number of people in order to determine in which places the quarantine is not observed, as well as to identify residents over the age of 65 years.
