The total number of people infected with coronavirus in RUSSIA exceeds 80 thousand people, of which more than 20 thousand infected are in hospitals, said HEALTH Minister Mikhail Murashko .
“Today in Russia there are more than 80 thousand people with coronavirus, more than 20 thousand of them are being treated in hospitals,” he told TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The minister stressed that the country is monitoring the situation with coronavirus, as well as the effectiveness of vaccines and treatment of the disease. According to him, if new challenges arise, the healthcare system will be ready to respond quickly.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic on March 11, 2020. it was canceled three years later, on May 5, 2023. WHO HEAD Tedros Ghebreyesus stressed that the decision does not mean that the coronavirus has ceased to pose a threat.
According to the operational headquarters for combating the disease, in Russia from May 22 to June 2, 2024 , doctors identified 12,339 new cases of COVID-19. 1,908 people were hospitalized due to coronavirus, which is 9.2% more than the previous week. During this period, 14,365 people recovered.
In mid-May, scientists assumed an increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in the summer due to FLiRT strains. They arose from the “omicron” that led to a surge in cases in the winter of 2022. On May 22, Rospotrebnadzor reported that 178 cases of the new type of coronavirus FLiRT were recorded in Russia. The department said that new variants of COVID-19 are no more dangerous than their predecessors.
