Moscow and St. Petersburg have updated absolute records for the number of deaths from COVID

Over the past day in the two largest cities of RUSSIA from covid-19234 people died. Such a high mortality has not been since the beginning of the pandemic

Over the past day in Moscow, 124 people have died immediately from the CORONAVIRUS infection COVID-19, according to data from the federal operational headquarters. In St. Petersburg, 110 people died from the disease on the same day.

The number of deaths in Moscow has become a record for any region of Russia since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. In St. Petersburg, the number of deaths in one day has reached an absolute maximum for this city, even in Moscow, a greater number of deaths has so far been recorded only once - on June 27, it was announced that 114 people had died from COVID-19.

At the same time, the number of COVID-19 infections in St. Petersburg only on June 20 exceeded the mark of 1,000 per day and remains six to eight times less than in Moscow, however, in terms of the number of deaths per day, the capital has been several times inferior to St. Petersburg in recent days.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Buryatia also looks high. More than 20 people per day (21, 22, 23, 26, 23, 23 and 23, respectively) have been dying here for seven days in a row, while the number of infections detected in early June did not exceed one hundred per day. Over the past day, 309 patients with COVID-19 have been identified in Buryatia, which has become a new record.

In general, 611 people died from COVID-19 in Russia over the past day. At the same time, the following regions became leaders in terms of mortality along with Moscow and St. Petersburg:

Buryatia - 23; Nizhny Novgorod region - 22; Moscow region - 20; Irkutsk region - 19; Penza region - 15.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia, according to the operational headquarters, 133,893 people have died from COVID-19. However, according to Rosstat, by the end of April 2021, more than 270 thousand people with COVID-19 had died. The methodology for calculating mortality, which is used by the operational headquarters, differs from the methodology of the statistical office. So, it takes into account all deaths after COVID-19, even those cases where the virus did not become the main cause of death, but had a significant impact on the development of complications of another disease.
