Moderna has announced a special vaccine against "omicron"

So far, the American vaccine developer intends to offer a booster vaccine to protect against Omicron, but already at the beginning of next year, it will start testing a vaccine against a new strain

In early 2022, clinical trials of an omicron-specific CORONAVIRUS vaccine will begin. This was reported by the press service of Moderna.

Up to the launch of a specific vaccine, Moderna expects to fight the omicron strain with booster shots. The company has already tested the effectiveness of revaccination against Omicron. According to the published results of the study, the number of antibodies after a second injection increases tenfold.

“The currently approved 50 microgram mRNA-1273 vaccine booster increases levels of Omicron-neutralizing antibodies approximately 37-fold compared to pre-booster levels,” the report said.

In addition, the company is also testing a double-volume booster, when 100 micrograms of the drug is administered immediately to the patient. Such an injection, according to tests, on the 29th day after the injection increases the number of antibodies by 83 times. The company did not find any serious side effects.

“The 100µg mRNA-1273 booster dose is generally safe and well tolerated. The frequency and nature of local adverse events seven days after revaccination were generally comparable to those after two doses of primary vaccination,” Moderna reported. However, when using a double booster dose, side effects were still more common than with a regular revaccination, the researchers noted.
