The Turkish Ministry of Health reported nine cases of the new strain of COVID-19 “Eris”

In Turkey, nine people became infected with the new strain of CORONAVIRUS EG.5 (“Eris”). This was announced by the HEAD of the Ministry of HEALTH of the Republic, Fahrettin Koca, on Twitter (the new name of the social network is X).

“The Eris variant, which, according to our information, has low virulence, was found in ten people,” Koca said. He said that measures to contain coronavirus infection will not change, and the situation with the spread of this strain is also observed in other countries. The head of the Ministry of Health promised to protect the elderly and chronically ill, who are most vulnerable to coronavirus infection.

Scientists identified the first samples of Eris in February 2023. Over six months, the frequency of detection of this strain increased from 6.2 to 11.6%. On August 9, the World Health Organization announced that Eris had been moved from the monitoring list to the list of strains of concern.

During the period from April to August, only 17 cases of the disease were recorded in RUSSIA. Symptoms of infection are the same as with previous strains: fever, runny nose, sore throat, chest tightness and cough.
