The Ministry of Health warned of a new wave of COVID in the Perm Territory

The Ministry of HEALTH of the Perm Territory warned that a new wave of CORONAVIRUS infection could come to the region. In this regard, the department called on residents of the Perm Territory to be revaccinated.

HEAD of the Department of Epidemiology and Hygiene of PSMU, Professor Irina Feldblyum reported that local mutations of BA.4 and BA.5 (varieties of the omicron variant) have now been identified. They are 25-30% more contagious than "omicron". The centaur and ninja strains are currently being studied. The increase in the contagiousness of viruses has led to an increase in the incidence, which is now observed.

“Data on the effectiveness of vaccines against new variants is still scarce. But it can already be expected that it will be reduced. However, getting vaccinated again (especially if you haven’t done it for a long time) is still worth it, ”said Irina Feldblum.

Earlier, RBC Perm reported that a significant increase in the incidence of covid is predicted in the Perm Territory. This was stated by the head of the department of epidemiological surveillance of the Office of Rospotrebnadzor in the Perm Territory Evgeny Smirnov.

At the same time, the representative of Rospotrebnadzor refused to give accurate forecasts. He repeated that there will be an increase in the incidence, but it is rather difficult to say how intensively it will proceed.

The incidence of coronavirus infection in the Perm region began to grow in July. So, if on July 25, 88 cases of COVID were recorded in the region per day, then as of August 9, 265 cases were already detected per day. By August 12, the incidence increased to 459 cases per day. Since then, the incidence has declined slightly. On August 15, 376 cases of COVID were recorded in the region. The level of herd immunity in the Perm region decreased to 6.1%.
