The Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine of disrupting the humanitarian operation at Azovstal

The Ukrainian side disrupted the evacuation operation from the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant. This was stated by the HEAD of the Russian Interdepartmental Coordination Headquarters for Humanitarian Response in Ukraine Mikhail Mizintsev, RBC reported.

“The humanitarian operation by the Kyiv authorities was cynically disrupted, no one used the indicated corridor. The commanders of the nationalist battalions did not use another opportunity to save themselves and the lives of their subordinates,” Mizintsev said.

On April 19, Eduard Basurin, a representative of the People's Militia of the DPR, said that the DPR military, with the support of Russian aviation and artillery, began an assault on the Azovstal plant. The Russian Defense Ministry again invited the Ukrainian military to lay down their arms and surrender. The military department promised that "all those who laid down their arms will be guaranteed the preservation of life, complete security and the provision of qualified medical care."

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine would stop negotiations with RUSSIA if the Ukrainian military remaining in Mariupol were destroyed. According to him, the situation in the city remains difficult, the military is blocked. 

Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24. A few days later, the Ministry of Defense reported that the DPR formations blocked the second largest city in the Donetsk region, Mariupol. On March 21, Kadyrov announced the beginning of the assault on the city.
