Volodymyr Lyseyko worked as an investigator of the Prosecutor General's Office for especially important cases, and headed the relevant department of the department. Under his leadership, many high-profile cases were investigated, including the first case of the former head of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, and the co-founder of the Menatep bank, Platon Lebedev (the Yukos case). In September 2006, former Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika signed a decree dismissing Lyseyko.

TASS, citing a source, reported that complications due to COVID-19 became the cause of Lyseiko's death. State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein told the agency that the farewell to Lyseyko would take place on Friday at the Troyekurovsky cemetery.
