The United States needs a presidential candidate who will divide society less than former HEAD of state Donald Trump , Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk said on Twitter.
“While I believe a less divisive candidate would be preferred in 2024, I still think Trump should be reinstated on Twitter,” he wrote.
Twitter suspended Trump's account in January 2021. This happened after supporters of the former president, dissatisfied with the election victory of Democrat Joe Biden, stormed the Capitol. The protests began after Trump admitted that the results of the election he lost were rigged.
US launches new probe into Musk's actions with Twitter shares
In posts on the social network, Trump urged citizens to express their dissatisfaction in peaceful ways, but stated that the victory was “stolen” from him. At first, the administration of the social network began to hide the messages of the head of state, and later, on January 9, they blocked the account, believing that the ex-president was inciting citizens to violence. Trump and his supporters considered this censorship and a violation of freedom of speech.
On April 25, Twitter circulated a message saying that Musk bought the company for $44 billion. The deal is expected to close in 2022 when it is approved by shareholders and the regulator issues the appropriate approval. According to CNBC sources, Musk should become the CEO of Twitter after the deal closes. According to them, the businessman will hold this post for several months.
Musk offered to unblock Trump's account and called the decision to ban the account a mistake. On March 10, he stated that he would remove the blocking from the account, but emphasized that he could not do this, since he did not yet own the social network. “So you can’t say that this will definitely happen,” the entrepreneur said.
