Macron secretly hosted Sarkozy before talking to Putin

French President Emmanuel Macron secretly received the former HEAD of the republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, at the Elysee Palace, Le Figaro newspaper writes.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, May 3, before a telephone conversation between Macron and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The content of the conversation is being kept under wraps. However, the entourage of Macron and Sarkozy suggested that it was about the upcoming parliamentary elections in the summer.

Earlier, Sarkozy said that he intends to vote for Macron in the second round of the presidential elections, which took place on April 24. Then the incumbent president won with a score of 58.55% of the vote, and his rival, the leader of the "National Association" Marine Le Pen, scored 41.45%.

Putin told Macron that Moscow is open to dialogue with Kyiv Politics

The newspaper Le Monde, on the eve of the second round, wrote that between Sarkozy and Macron, during the latter's five-year presidential term, "a special relationship has developed." Former colleagues regularly called each other, consulted with each other on important issues, Macron invited Sarkozy to dinners at the Elysee Palace. Sarkozy became his ally on the way to re-election for a second term, the newspaper noted.

As the newspaper wrote, we are talking about a possible "coalition agreement" between Sarkozy's "Republicans" party and "macronists" in the upcoming elections, which the ex-president is counting on in exchange for Macron's support. The deal would allow Sarkozy, among other things, to nominate the French Prime Minister. Macron denied the existence of an agreement.

Putin, during a conversation with Macron, congratulated him on his re-election as head of state. The presidents discussed the situation in Ukraine.
