The Baltika brewing company may be sold to the Belgian-Turkish joint venture AB InBev Efes, Kommersant writes, citing sources.
Now Baltika (which also produces beer Baltika, Arsenalnoye, Zatecky Gus) is owned by the Danish Carlsberg, which at the end of March announced its withdrawal from Russia. Prior to this, the company reported that it intended to spin off the Baltika plants into a separate business.
Carlsberg did not provide a comment, AB InBev Efes said they "do not comment on rumors."
AB InBev Efes manages 11 breweries in Russia, produces beer under the brands Klinskoye, Beliy Medved, Sibirskaya Korona, among others.
In 2020, Baltika had about 27% of the Russian beer market, while AB InBev Efes had 30%, the newspaper writes. Anastasia Kayukova, senior lawyer at Vegas Lex antimonopoly practice, suggested that the FAS would approve the deal if the service determined that the combined company, even with a significant market share, would not have market power.

Also, the Israeli CBC Group was named as a potential buyer.
Baltika reported that the Carlsberg Group did not intend to sell individual plants, but wanted to sell the entire company as a whole. It operates eight factories, including those in St. Petersburg , Voronezh, and Novosibirsk, which produce over 55 brands of beer. Now the company has three co-owners: Carlsberg Sverige AB, Hoppy Union LLC (1.35%), Carlsberg Deutschland (0.09%). The net profit of Baltika in 2021 amounted to 5.34 billion rubles.
