Kommersant learned about the reduction in the supply of MS-21 due to engines from the USA

The American manufacturer of engines, which were installed on Russian MS-21 aircraft, stopped deliveries to Russia due to sanctions. According to Kommersant, they will be able to replace the engines no earlier than in two years.

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) was unable to obtain most of the engines for the MS-21 aircraft from the American corporation Pratt & Whitney, which is why it reduced the plan for the supply of the MS-21 aircraft, Kommersant reports.

According to the sources of the newspaper, UAC managed to get only two sets of American engines for two prototypes of the MS-21, although under earlier contracts it was supposed to receive eight units for $101 million.

The MS-21 is a medium-haul passenger aircraft, "focused on the most massive segment of the world market," according to the description on the manufacturer's website. Modification MS-21-300 allows you to carry from 160 to 211 passengers, and modification MS-21-200 - from 130 to 176 people.

At the end of 2021, the aircraft received a basic certificate, in December it made its first flight with a Russian composite wing. The MS-21 aircraft was planned to be delivered to customers with American engines, the version with the Russian PD-14 engine is now undergoing flight tests.

Competitors of the MS-21 are European aircraft of the Airbus A320 neo family and American Boeing 737 MAX (not allowed to fly in Russia).
