In the first half of this year, 735,322 people got married, which is 40% more than in the same period last year. This was reported by "Izvestia" with reference to the data of the Ministry of Justice. From January to June 2020, 442,306 people were married.

Most people get married in Moscow. 33,960 couples became families in the capital this year, followed by the Moscow region (24,009) and St. Petersburg (19,679). Among the regions, the most newlyweds were in the Krasnodar Territory and the Sverdlovsk Region, 16,891 and 11,671 couples got married there, respectively, the newspaper reports.

Moscow authorities allowed weddings only in COVID-free restaurants Society

Experts explain the increase in the number of marriages by the fact that last year there were restrictions due to the CORONAVIRUS, the activities of both registry offices and catering establishments where you can celebrate a wedding were severely limited.

“Now we are seeing deferred demand <...> In 2021, we will probably return to pre-pandemic values,” Alexander Shcherbakov, professor at the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the RANEPA, explained to the newspaper.
