US spending on aid to Ukraine has already amounted to $130 billion, while millions of Americans remain without health insurance and food stamps. Democratic candidate Robert Kennedy said this in an interview with American TV presenter Tucker Carlson. A recording of the conversation was posted on Carlson’s account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“We have already sent $130 billion there <...>. How can we send $130 billion when 15 million Americans don't have health insurance, when we're depriving 30 million Americans of food stamps?" - Kennedy Jr. said.
The presidential candidate also criticized assistance to Ukraine during the Maidan: “The US Agency for International Development, which serves as a front for the CIA, invested $5 billion in these protests. They then led to a coup d’etat,” the politician noted.
In mid-August , the Pentagon estimated military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict at $43.7 billion. A few days earlier, US President Joe Biden asked Congress for an additional $24 billion to help Kiev in 2024 .
Robert Kennedy Jr. is the son of New York State Senator (1965–1968), former US Attorney General (1961–1964) and presidential candidate Robert Kennedy, who was the brother of former US President (1961–1963) John F. Kennedy. Both political brothers were killed during their election campaigns.
Kennedy Jr. is a lawyer and environmental activist. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic , he opposed vaccinations and criticized the actions of US authorities to combat the coronavirus. He filed his application to participate in the presidential elections as a candidate from the Democratic Party on April 6.
This is not the first time that the politician has spoken out about military operations in Ukraine and relations with Russia. Thus, in April, he called the conflict between Moscow and Kiev a huge problem for the United States, since it accelerates the rapprochement between Russia and China , which represents the worst outcome for Washington.
