Austria, Germany and Hungary oppose the EU embargo on Russian gas. This was stated by Austrian Chancellor Karch Nehammer in an interview with CNN.

“Austria is not alone in opposing the gas embargo. Germany, Hungary and other EU member states are of the same opinion,” Nehammer said.

The German regulator said that gas reserves in storage facilities will last until autumn

An embargo on Russian gas and other energy resources is being discussed as part of a new package of sanctions that the EU is going to impose against RUSSIA because of a special military operation in Ukraine. Earlier on April 7, the European Parliament called for an embargo on Russian energy resources.

On April 12, the Austrian Chancellor arrived in Moscow and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The topic of the talks was the situation around Ukraine. He became the first HEAD of government of a European state who, after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, came to Moscow to personally meet with Putin. According to Nehammer, the conversation with Putin did not leave "a positive overall impression."

Putin and Nehammer talked one on one. According to the newspaper Kleine Zeitung, the conversation lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that the conversation was short.
