Experts announced 600 thousand HIV patients left without treatment

In 2020, the Russian state purchased 505,190 annual courses of HIV medicines (antiretroviral therapy), which covers the needs of about 45.7% of all registered patients with HIV infection and 64% of the total number of those registered at the dispensary. These conclusions were reached by the experts of the Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPCru) in their annual report (available from RBC), which analyzes public procurement of antiretroviral drugs. Thus, almost 600 thousand people (599,578) of the total number of HIV-positive patients in 2020 did not receive therapy.

As emphasized by the coalition, the main goal of the report is to assist the efforts that government agencies are making in the fight against the HIV epidemic.

In total, according to official data from the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS of Rospotrebnadzor, as of the end of 2020, 1.1 million Russians were registered in RUSSIA with a diagnosis of HIV infection.
