“I don’t really understand the meaning of this competition. It's more like politics than science or HEALTH care. The choice of experts is clear: a significant number of health officials still belong to the Western world, to the United States of America. They have heard the names of these drugs, they have powerful connections with their pharmaceutical companies. There is a certain bias,” said Alexander Chepurnov, a leading researcher at the Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (FRC FTM), Professor of Virology.

However, he acknowledged that Moderna and Pfizer are outperforming the competition in vaccination rates. “They have probably already vaccinated about 200 million people. Sputnik V and AstrsZeneca are lagging behind in this respect. And which vaccine is stronger, it is still too early to speculate. This can be understood in six months or a year, ”Chepurnov said.

The expert recalled that the effectiveness of drugs lies not only in the minimum of adverse reactions, but also in the percentage of those vaccinated they protect, the duration of immunization. “But in general, we don’t have a competition, we have a need to save people’s lives,” he added.
